In the heart of the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a young shepherd. His being was mostly pure, simple, and honest. His main role was to care for his flock of here ewes.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the wind through the single tree on the peak were his only co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his responsibilities imbued in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. During one such occasion from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous scheme.

Stories of wolves preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a prank on the villagers.

One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but found nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a few more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf did attack the herd. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once broken, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
